Bread Kunafa | Knafeh Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups Bread crumbs
  • 120 gm Butter
  • ½ cup Fresh cream / Thick cream
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese

FOR THE SYRUP

  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • ½ cup Water
  • 1 tsp Rose water
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice

FOR GARNISH

  • 5 tbsp Pistachio roasted and crushed

Instructions
 

  • Melt the butter in a saucepan and swirl it around to coat the pan.
  • Mix the slightly cooled butter and bread crumbs thoroughly.
  • Spread half of the mixture in the sauce pan and press down.
  • Add dollops of the cream and spread as evenly as possible.
  • Then layer the mozzarella cheese.
  • Layer the remaining bread crumbs on top and press lightly.
  • Place the saucepan on a heavy bottom pan on medium heat for the first 2-3 mins. Then bring the flame to low, cover and cook for 20-25 mins.
  • In the meantime, prepare the sugar syrup by boiling all the ingredients for the syrup just until the sugar dissolves. You don’t have to achieve any string consistency.
  • Slide (don’t Flip) the Kunafa onto a plate. Clean the pan with a tissue paper and rub some butter on the pan.
  • Place the saucepan on top of the plate and flip the kunafa onto the sauce pan.
  • Cook the other side for 10 mins. Slide the Kunafa onto the serving plate.
  • Pour most of the syrup on top and garnish with pistachios.
  • Serve hot/warm with additional syrup if needed. Enjoy!!

Notes

**To bake in oven**
Butter an oven-safe dish and layer the Kunafa as shown in the video. Bake in a 180F preheated oven for 20-25 mins. Invert onto a serving dish and garnish with sugar syrup and pistachios.
